Our Model- Skill Share

The last month I’ve sketched out the values of House of the Transfiguration. Here is our overall model for the church.

Once again, pictured here is a visual representation of our model (you can click on it to see it larger): Last week I talked about the roots of the model: Contemplation and then on Thursday we talked about the first “fruit” on the branches which is our Gathering.

The next “fruit” is Skill Share. This is our education component. This will be the place where we will share our gifts and skills with each other. I imagine this will look different each time. Sometimes we might dig into a Bible study or other kinds of theological study, other times someone from the community might have something they’d like to share. I would hope that we would have workshops on community organizing, issues impacting our neighborhoods, how to repair bikes or other things to live more sustainably, and more.

The idea here is that we all have something to learn from one another and we all have skills and experiences to share. We want to be a community that gives away knowledge and equips people to live in the world more justly and more sustainably.

These skill shares will probably be shorter term endeavors; someone will teach a one day workshop or a several week session and then we’ll move on to something else. If you have something to share, you’ll be able to share it with others so everyone can benefit!
